The Person That I Am

By Guest Author On May 30, 2011 No Comments

Who am I? What comes to mind when you ask yourself this question? How many different memories, ideas, and things seem like a part of you? What do you identify with? Does this process of identification help you, or just cause suffering?

Perhaps when your favorite basketball team loses, you suffer as though YOU lost. When your car is damaged it feels like YOU are hurt. When somebody attacks who they think you are, it seems as though they actually reach inside and poke at your true self. How can you escape this unnecessary drama and pain?

Perhaps by seeing who and what you are not. Seeing the process of identification clearly can free you from the ego attachments that cause you to suffer. There is a simple meditation that can help you with this spiritual awakening.

Sit or lay comfortably in a quiet place. Relax, close your eyes, and take several deep breaths. Breathe through your nose, eventually letting your breathing fall into a natural pattern. Pay attention to your breath, to the air moving in and out of your lungs and nose. Let the tension drain from your body.

Ask the question in your mind, “Where am I?” Then ask, “What am I?” and “Who am I?” Just let these questions sit for a moment in your mind.

Become aware of your body, and consider your leg. Would you cease to exist if you lost it? Are you your leg? Continue through the parts of your body, asking of each part, “Am I here?” and “Is this what I am?”

Then open your eyes and look around. Are you any of these things? You might feel pain when your favorite chair breaks, as though it were you, but you are not that chair. Which of these things you own are you? Ask these questions. Ask, “Am I this?”

Now close your eyes again and say your name in your mind. Is there a sense of identity? What if you had no name? Ask yourself “Am I really…” and say your name again. Consider what the most honest answer is. Try saying “I am…” and insert any other name. Note how, when you call yourself by another name, you feel differently. You have a name-identity that is a collection of ideas, something seen differently by you and others.

Let feelings arise, and ask “Am I this fear?… this pain, sadness, desire, pleasure, or anger? You can see that your feelings are not you – they just pass through you. Do the clothes you wear, the type of body you have or even your reputation in the eyes of peers a true mirror of your real self-identity?

Continue this meditation for twenty minutes or so . Take a deep breath and get up, noticing if you feel different – maybe less worried or less attached to things, feelings and thoughts. Repeat the meditation as often as necessary, to remind you of what you are not. Oh, and you really don’t need to answer the question, “Who am I?” That is not necessary for this new spiritual journey that you embark on.

Find Out What You Really Want

By Guest Author On March 22, 2011 No Comments

Ever wonder why some people never get anything good out of their life? That’s because they don’t know what they want in the first place!

You must be specific in your passions, then you must focus all your efforts on that particular desire.

Some people don’t really know what they want. For one moment they’re excited over a particular thing or endeavor. The next thing you know they completely abandon it; either because they lose their interest or because they give up when they encounter a little problem. Those who constantly change their minds and those who give up easily when the going gets tough will never get anywhere. They have not experienced a spiritual awakening. Maybe right now you’re a bit confused. You don’t seem to know what you really want in life. You might want to consider these to start your spiritual journey:

1. What makes you excited?

2. What makes you happy?

3. What are you consistently thinking of day & night?

4. What do you want to do for the rest of your life?

5. What do you enjoy doing?

6. What are your obsessions?

7. What things make you jump with joy?

To help you out, just follow these steps.

1. Write on a piece of paper all your possible answers for the seven questions above. Write anything, even seemingly unimportant ones.

 2. Encircle 5 to 7 items that interests you the most.

 3. Then evaluate and choose with your heart the one and only thing that is worthy to spend all your time and resources with. The choice you make should be something that allows you to shine.

Other than the exercise above, you could also ask your close friends and relatives about their personal dreams. You could also read books and surf the net to help you in your search.

Use your heart. Other people may disagree with you, but you should be firm with what you really want. Others may offer their input but the final decision is always yours to make. You should concentrate on what you want, not what others want for you.

Then you have to constantly visualize and affirm your desires.

If you want to be a lawyer, visualize as one. Act like one. Think of what suit you’re wearing, the judge you’re convincing, the case you’re handling, and the courtroom you’re in. Visualize the evidences. Smell the victory. Make everything real.

Believe that you are what you are visualizing. So you want to be a lawyer? Tell yourself, ‘I’m the best lawyer in the world.’ Don’t say to yourself, ‘I will be the best lawyer in the world.’

Affirm strongly. Say ‘I am,’ not ‘I will,’ because ‘I will’ suggests something that will occur only in the future. You must experience it in the NOW, not in the future.

You must sink into your subconscious your deepest desire. The subconscious mind can do what the conscious mind cannot.

Here’s an exercise.

1. Get a peaceful and comfortable place to rest.

2. Relax your whole body. Command every part of your body to relax starting from your feet up to your head.

3. Count back slowly from 20 to 1 while relaxing deeper and deeper with each count. Upon reaching 1, you are completely relaxed.

4. Now affirm your deepest desire. If you want to be a lawyer, say,’ I am the greatest lawyer in the world.’ As you’re saying that, picture yourself to be the best lawyer ever, winning every case you’ve come across. You may say ‘I am now explaining to the jury my winning proposition’ or anything that will affirm what you’re conceiving in your mind as of the moment.

5. After about 10 to 20 minutes of continuous confirmation and visualization, count slowly from 1 to 20. Upon counting, slowly be aware of your surroundings. Feel refreshed and invigorated after doing this exercise.

6. Repeat this exercise every day. What you have just learned is a very powerful technique that enhances the power of visualization and affirmation – embedding it into the subsconscious. What once is nearly impossible to achieve will become easier to reach from now on.

Don’t go sleeping tonight without making a final decision on WHAT YOU REALLY WANT IN LIFE MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. Then every day, visualize and affirm.

Achieving Success By Giving

By Guest Author On March 22, 2011 No Comments

Charity is the key element in most religions, especially the six major world religions. The Bible mentions charity numerous times in the New Testament and offerings even more often in the Old Testament. Islam’s sacred writing mentions the term charity throughout the Quran, especially in its first and longest Surah, The Cow.  Though the word charity isn’t used in Hindu writings, the premise of giving and aiding others is prevalent within the Rig Veda, Thirukkural, Bhagawad Gita, and other writings. Concerning charity in Buddhism, H.H. The Dalai Lama has stated, “… from the time of Buddha until today all forms of Buddhism have been continuously trying to help people, whether in social groups or individually … The freedom and happiness of all living beings have always been the ultimate ideal and the working goal.” The sixth major world religion is Skihism, which carries a synthesized belief system from Islam and Hinduism.

Additionally, the Bible’s Old Testament has several references to the word “sevenfold” and the phrase “seven times”, stating that what you put out through your actions (energy) comes back to you seven times stronger.

It’s the way the universe works. It’s a fundamental part of our lives. When you seek success in anything, you have a tendency to focus totally on the goal and the process of getting there. That’s a problem. The more you chase after your own goals and pursue your self-interest, the more they elude you. When you’re in a state of doing only for yourself, you are off your purpose.

You radiate with what you have inside you. . What you give off, you attract to you. If you’re focusing on your own self-interests, it’s the same as being greedy. You’re only concerned with receiving, which means you don’t give. If you don’t give, the universe doesn’t give back to you. When you freely give only to help others without concern for what you’ll receive in return, then the universe gives back to you in greater amounts. It’s as simple as that. That realization is the start of a new spirituality for you

You attract what you give, what’s inside of you. If you give love, respect and empowerment, the universe returns what you radiate sevenfold. If you give of yourself in time and money, the universe returns your giving sevenfold.

Tammy is a single parent, who was having trouble making ends meet. She had been let go from her job and received no child support. Jobs were scarce and the rent was coming due. No matter what she did, she seemed to fail. The more she scrimped and worried, the worse her situation became.  One day while visiting and keeping her mother company, they watched the 700 Club. There were a couple families on the show telling about how they were having serious financial problems. The people had seen the 700 Club’s message about giving. Needless to say, Tammy decided to give ten percent of the little she had to the 700 Club’s Operation Blessing and begin cherishing what she and her children had, rather than focusing on what they didn’t have. Less than a week after giving to the charity, she found a job, allowing her to keep her apartment. She continued to give ten percent of her salary, regardless of her needs, and the universe continued to give to her in abundance. She now owns her own business and just purchased a new home. We have heard many such stories like Tammy’s.  In each case, when they experience this spiritual awakening, the people take the focus off themselves and their problems, give only for the purpose of giving and helping others, and receive sevenfold for their gift to the universe.
