Many things make a good keynote speaker. Some of those traits are more important than other skills. If you have ever listened to a keynote speaker live, you will have noticed even if they are all very different, they generally posses the same core qualities. Indeed, think about it- it does take a special kind of personality to sit up and make a speech in front of an audience. That is whether the audience is small or large! I know I couldn’t!

Confidence has to be the the most important weapon in the arsenal of a business speaker. Their job would be very difficult otherwise. Would you really listen to someone who shakes with fear throughout their speech? Someone that exhales confidence is something to listen to. A confident speaker will pass their self belief onto you.

It might seem obvious to point out, but knowledge of the subject area is important for a motivational speaker. If you dont know your stuff, you are very likely to be caught out. Confidence and knowledge go hand in hand. The speaker also has the added benefit of knowing they can discuss the subject in detail. People listent to experts, and those that can offer them knowledge. Knowledge is power!

An entertaining speaker is always likely to fair better. No-one likes to be bored. You don’t need to be a comedian, but a bit of humour does help. The subject the speaker is talking about is irrelevant. If the speaker can raise a laugh, they are going to get their message across. The audience will remember and talk to their friends about the speech.

Without structure, the audience are also going to be bored. Keeping your audience on their toes is vital. Get the audience to participate. Exchanges questions and answers. Terrify them by inviting them on stage. Anything to keep their attention and focus on the message.

The message you are putting across is vitally important. The speech needs to match the audience. Athletes will want stories of inspiration and achievement. For the less confident, offer them help to get over their anxiety. The audience need to take the message home with them and make use of it.

A keynote speaker that manages all the above will always be successful. And with this, their fees tally up accordingly!
