Everyone is aware of what Gross Domestic Product (GDP) means, but have you heard of Gross National Happiness (GNH)?

GNH is similar to the concept of GDP but instead of measuring goods and services produced by a country, it measures the happiness and well-being of individuals. A nation may be wealthy in terms of money, but if it is in a condition of turmoil and its citizens are not content with life, a healthy economic system will not matter. It goes to show that happiness is significantly more important than money.

GNH concentrates on the social and psychological status in the development of a nation. A number of aspects go into its calculation particularly: environmental, physical, psychological, workplace, sociable, political, and financial wellness. All these are indicators of how happy a society is. Its importance lies in the growth that people have in mind and spirit balanced with material wealth.

With the world in a condition of unbalanced equilibrium in GNH and economic gain, a call for an rise in wellness and happiness is much needed. A balance between rich and poor is a great start and it can only be accomplished with the empowered supporting the less fortunate.

Taking the lead from Bhutan’s movement in measuring happiness as the wealth of a nation, there is a desperate need to increase happiness, particularly in the United States. But in contrast to GDP, increasing GNH shouldn’t be so hard.

Helping people is a wonderful way to increase happiness for the individual giving and the person receiving the support. It is one way to change the world you are in simply because voluntary work abroad or in one’s locale is priceless.

One doesn’t have to be a Buddhist to fully grasp that helping people is a advantageous experience because of the connection it generates with other people.

Volunteer work overseas, especially in 3rd industry international locations, should do also much more help due to the fact people are assisted in the issues they need and taught at a similar time. Poorer communities in nations prefer Guatemala, Bangladesh, or the Philippines benefit from volunteer function ten-fold because simple additions like schools or vocational function programs to improve the impoverished rise pleasure by a lot.

So increase GNH today by helping other people and making them happy. If happiness is a more valuable asset than income, then progress won’t be so difficult to achieve, because everyone has the power to help other people.
