Get Back To Work! Time Management Tips

By Guest Author On January 21, 2011 Under Personal Development

You may not realize this, but even the most organized people in the world sometimes find it a challenge to manage their time. Still, it’s worth it to improve your time management skills as much as possible. No matter what you want to do, you can do more of it when you are skilled at managing your time. People who are more productive also have higher self esteem, which serves them when they are relaxing as well as when they are working. If you want to acquire better time management skills, the following tips will be useful.

Trying to be perfect can actually make you less productive. It’s definitely possible to improve your time management skills, but being perfect is not possible. When you try to do things perfectly, they often end up turning out very imperfectly. This is just the way things are. If you are going to effectively manage your time and methodically complete your tasks, you can’t be concerned with perfection. No schedule can be perfectly maintained. No one does everything perfectly all the time. So be satisfied with doing the best you can. If you want to get better at time management, you have to learn how to relax and reduce your stress levels.

Have a schedule for your month, week and day. It is important that you schedule in breaks, time to return emails and conference times. You will find it much easier to handle your tasks if you have a structured schedule. With a structured schedule you can train yourself to be quite productive during certain times of the day. It does take diligence on your part. It may take a month but you will find that you are committed to this new way of thinking so much that it seems natural.

Give yourself a reward! Give yourself something to look forward to after you’ve completed your “to do” list. We are naturally more productive when we know that we will be rewarded when we’re done. You know yourself, so pick something that motivates you. If you think about it, you can come up with something that will help you manage your time better. This gives you a pleasurable goal to strive for, aside from just completing the job. Working all day with no reward in sight can be dreary. A reward adds the element of fun to your work. You’re more productive if you’re having fun.

Time management skills are something that anybody can develop. The time management principles we’ve been discussing here are a good starting point for you to work on this skill.

When you figure out how to create a schedule that’s ambitious yet realistic and also flexible, you’ll be on your way to mastering time management. You will improve at this ability as you practice it. Lastly, look at these Decision Bar reviews to see how I manage my time when I am trading.
