Funeral Services – A Brief Guide

By Guest Author On November 25, 2010 Under Personal Development

Death is an inevitable reality all of us have to face eventually, but planning the funeral of a dear one can still be very unnerving. Still, you have to bear with your loss and begin making proper preparations for the funeral service to allow the visitors to grieve with you. You can get the required assistance in making the related preparations from any funeral home, but you should keep in mind a few things before making the move.

A funeral should express how the dead person lived his life and it should be conducted in a respectable manner. There is a classic pattern which almost all funeral services stick to, and any deviation would normally depend on particular religious and cultural preferences of the deceased and his or her family members.

The first stage of a funeral service can extend from a few hours to several days and it is known as visitation. In this ceremony, the friends and family gather to revive memories of their loved one. The second stage is formal funeral services in any location like a church, a chapel, a mortuary or any other place that had a special significance for the deceased person. You will also need to book a funeral coach or hearse to bear the body, if the funeral is taking place outdoors.

At the end of this service, the family and friends go to attend the graveyard service at the selected cemetery. You can either opt for this to be managed by a family member or by a clergyman. You also have to take care of several other things like the kind of flowers you want for the service, if you want to display a photo of the dead person and who will be the person leading the service.

The final step of the service is the burial of the body at a site, which is usually based on the type of tradition that the family has. The burial can be done on a family plot or a graveyard, or if the deceased had wanted a cremation, the ashes can be scattered at an appropriate location.
