Better Closets for Better Living

By Guest Author On March 15, 2011 Under Personal Development

Some people are extremely neat, while others are just the opposite.  Most of us are  somewhere in the middle of the two.  However important neatness is to us, we all need to be punctual , and we can agree that messy closets can cause us to run late.  So, if you want to  avoid  wasted time, try a few of these tips when you get a chance.

1.  Make three piles.  Take everything out of your closet and do some thinking.  Which items haven’t you reached for in years?  Put them in the first of the three piles .  Then, discard them or, even better, give them away to someone who can use them .  If you are unable to part with  a shirt from high school or college, store it someplace else.  The second and third piles are easy.  Make a pile for clothing and accessories for the current season and a third pile for the next season.

2.  Get the “next season” items out of the closet.  Put them where they won’t be in the way, perhaps in a box under your bed.    It’s a very old college student trick .

3.  Use your hangers smartly .  Hang your clothing in  categories.  Hang slacks with slacks ; shirts with shirts .  You’ll save time and space if every type of clothing is grouped together .
4.  Create shelves in your closets.  Clothing on shelves is easy to keep neat and can be found quickly .   Cheap, easy to put up shelves can be found at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and similar stores everywhere .

Anyone can improve their closets .  You don’t need a graduate degree.  All it takes is some thought and an hour or two …time you’ll get back  many times over.
